The 37th Guangxi Adolescent Science and Technology Innovation Contest (CASTIC) inaugurated in Guangxi Science and Technology Museum on May 12, 2023.
The event was co-sponsored by the Association for Science and Technology and the Department of Education of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, organized by Guangxi Children and Youth Science Center and Guangxi Science and Technology Museum, and jointly organized by Guangxi Youth Science and Technology Education Association.
More than 600 students and science instructors from 14 teams from various municipalities and districts in Guangxi participated in the event.
Fei Zhirong, vice chairman and member of the leading Party members group of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Yang Yuliang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and former president of Fudan University, Na Xiang, secretary of the leading Party members group and vice president of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Association for Science and Technology, Li Qingxian, deputy director of the Department of Education of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and officers of the Office of Civilization, the Department of Science and Technology, and the Women's Federation of Guangxi attended the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Na Xiang.
Li Qingxian delivered a speech on behalf of the organizers.
Li noted that the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has integrated education, technology, and talent into a three-pronged system for the first time, which reflects the great importance the Party and the state have attached to the cultivation of sci-tech innovation talent.
Li added that for many years, the Department of Education and the Association for Science and Technology of Guangxi have developed a series of brand programs including the contest and the program of Joyful Campus Tour for Science Popularization, to enhance the scientific literacy of the teenagers and cultivate sci-tech innovation talent for teenagers.
Li concluded that all these efforts aim to build a science education system to stimulate the creativity of the teenagers while they are exploring science, and he believed that will bring sound social results.
In the exhibition area of innovative projects for primary and secondary school students, Yang Yuliang talked friendly with the contestants.
Yang urged the contestants to observe scientific phenomena in daily life and practice critical thinking to solve practical problems.
"Only by acquiring scientific knowledge and improving capability can we teenager students make continuous innovation", told Su, a student from Nanning to the reporter.
Under the theme of "Innovation, experience and growth", and with delicacy designment for the two key groups of participating teenagers and science instructors, the event consisted of a large variety of competitions and exhibitions.
Since it is initiated in January, the event has received a total of 1,339 entries from 14 municipalities and districts across Guangxi.
After strict evaluation, a total of 386 entries have been screened out for the final evaluation and exhibition, with a wide range of disciplines including engineering, mathematics, computer science, information technology, environmental science, physics and astronomy, life sciences, chemistry, behavioral and social sciences.
After more than 30 years of development, and with clear targeted key groups, the program has become an influential science educational activity among teenagers in Guangxi, building a platform for both students and science instructors in the region to showcase their sci-tech innovation achievements and develop more science education programs.
