A team from the Working Committee on Physics of Yingcaijihua (Talent search) Program led by Li Shushen, director of the working committee, secretary of the Party Committee and president of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), came to Tianjin to conduct research.
The research happened with the background that during the 3rd study meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), President Xi Jinping instructed “We should stick to the path of independent cultivating talents of basic science and carry out Yingcaijihua Program for middle and high school students deeply.”
The research was participated by more than 40 people, including representatives from the national management office and Tianjin management office of Yingcaijihua Program, Nankai University, and Tianjin University, as well as representatives from physics instructors, participating high school students, and physics students.
The event was presided over by Wu Xiangping, deputy director of the working committee and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
The meeting heard presentations and reports about the implementation of Yingcaijihua Program in Tianjin, disciplinary construction of physics at Nankai University, the training of physics instructors, the feedbacks of the participating middle schools in the program.
The participants of the program in 2023 and before shared experiences and gains of the 2023 participants during the meeting.
The attendees had heated discussions on the successful experiences and encountering difficulties in program promotion, student selection, training and tracking services, and proposed suggestions on how to improve the quality of the participating students in the program.
Li Shushen noted that improving the quality of the participating students is the core of Yingcaijihua Program.
He urged to strengthen the value guidance for the participating students, getting them engaged in basic research to serve the motherland with science and technology.
He urged to leverage the strength of provincial offices, universities, middle schools, instructors, middle school teachers, students, parents, and other parties to build a good platform and take various measures to improve the quality of the participating students.
He hoped the participants can make full use of the resources provided by the program and keep their interest in science to contribute to building China a country strong in science and technology in the future.
During the event, the Working Committee on Physics held its second plenary meeting in 2023, discussing how to improve the ability of high school physics teachers to guide talented students.
Before the event, Wu Xiangping went to Tianjin Wutong High School to deliver a science lecture entitled "Understanding the universe", which received warm welcome by the students and the teachers.
